Bolero Bar Barcelona: A 1970s-Inspired Hidden Gem for Tapas, Oysters & Drinks

I had planned to meet a friend at my favorite oyster bar in Les Corts, Barcelona—a hidden gem with amazing quality for the price. I was excited to share this spot, but, of course, I completely forgot to book a table. My bad, especially on a Saturday!

With a quick scan of my mental list of alternatives, I realized that just around the corner was Bolero Bar, a stunning 1970s Spanish-inspired restaurant I had been meaning to visit for ages. It’s one of those places that always pops up as a film location recommendation in the industry, thanks to its timeless, cinematic vibe. Maybe it was meant to be!

Bolero Bar is a love letter to old-school Spanish taverns, with warm wooden interiors, soft amber lighting, and vintage posters that transport you to another era. The atmosphere is effortlessly cool—intimate yet lively, the kind of place where you can imagine writers and artists gathering over vermouth and lively conversation. Their menu is an ode to classic Spanish flavors, featuring seasonal tapas. A must-try are their bikini sandwich and tortilla de patata! Whether you’re there for a laid-back dinner or a round of cocktails, Bolero has that nostalgic charm that makes you want to stay a little longer.

And the best part? They also have an oyster menu! A bit pricier than the spot next door, but well worth it.

  • Els Encants Barcelona: Discover the City’s Oldest and Largest Flea Market

Els Encants Barcelona: Discover the City’s Oldest and Largest Flea Market

I recall my first year in Barcelona, stumbling upon the open-air flea market known as Els Encants Vells. In the 1990s, before its renovation, the market sprawled across an open space in Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, with vendors displaying their eclectic wares on the ground. The atmosphere was bustling and vibrant, a treasure trove for those seeking antiques, second-hand goods, and curiosities. However, as a newcomer not yet fluent in Spanish, I felt a tinge of unease navigating the lively chaos.

Fast forward a decade, the market underwent a significant transformation. In 2013, it relocated within the same area to a modern, architecturally striking building designed by b720 architects. This new structure features a distinctive 25-meter-high mirrored roof that reflects the activity below, enhancing the market’s dynamic ambiance. Despite the contemporary upgrade, Els Encants has retained its essence as Barcelona’s largest and oldest flea market, with origins dating back to the 14th century.

Today, the market is well-organized, housing over 300 vendors offering a diverse array of products. Shoppers can find antiques, vintage clothing, books, electronics, furniture, and even made-to-order items crafted by local artisans. The market also boasts various food stalls and restaurants, making it a destination not just for shopping but for a complete cultural experience.

Visiting Els Encants is a must when in Barcelona, offering a unique glimpse into the city’s rich history and vibrant market culture.

    Opening Hours:

    • Market Days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    • Auctions: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. encantsbarcelona.com

Whether you’re hunting for a unique souvenir or simply soaking in the lively atmosphere, Els Encants offers an experience that encapsulates the spirit of Barcelona.

  • Empanar Barcelona: A Cozy Brunch & Coffee Spot in Poblenou

Empanar Barcelona: A Cozy Brunch & Coffee Spot in Poblenou

Think of a healthy brunch, freshly made empanadas, and a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, all enjoyed in a space that exudes cozy island tropical vibes—warm wooden accents, lush greenery, and soft, inviting lighting. Whether you’re looking for a slow morning indulgence or a laid-back afternoon with good food, Empanar in Poblenou is a spot worth visiting.

This charming café opened just last year, following the closure of their original location in Eixample. While it’s always bittersweet to see a place go, I’m glad they kept this one because it fits so well with Poblenou’s relaxed, creative energy—where old industrial spaces meet cool cafés, art studios, and a slower pace of city life.

Empanar is perfect for unwinding—whether you’re catching up with friends over coffee or stopping by for happy hour to enjoy their thoughtfully crafted cocktails. And if you’re up for a stroll, the beach is just a 15-minute walk away, making it an ideal spot to start—or end—your day in Poblenou.

  • Barcelona Port at Night: Quiet Walks and Rainy Reflections

Barcelona Port at Night: Quiet Walks and Rainy Reflections

I wanted to hit my daily goal of 10,000 steps last night, so I decided to take a nighttime walk along the port of Barcelona. I hadn’t expected it to drizzle all evening—not enough to get drenched, but just enough to clear the streets, leaving the city unusually quiet. Peaceful, actually. That’s the word. It turned out to be one of the most tranquil walks I’ve taken in a while.

It’s rare to see the port of Barcelona so empty at 7 p.m., free of crowds and tourists. There’s something about the locals here—just a hint of rain is enough to keep most of us indoors, spoiled by the city’s almost constant sunshine.

As I walked, I was reminded of how beautiful Barcelona truly is. It’s easy to take it for granted after living here for over a decade. Sometimes, I feel like I’ve overstayed my time and that it’s time to experience somewhere new—another culture, another language, that rush of novelty I always crave when I travel.

And yet, who would’ve thought that a simple walk on a rainy evening—seeing the city lights reflected in puddles, the streets almost empty—would make me feel so grateful to be here?

Funny how it’s the unexpected moments that remind you why you’re exactly where you need to be.

Brunch with a Twist at T.44 – Barcelona’s Hidden Gem

If you’re on the hunt for a brunch spot that breaks away from the usual fare, look no further. T.44 in Poble Nou is quickly becoming one of my favorite places in the city.

I love how Poble Nou has transformed into a vibrant hub for new and exciting spots in Barcelona. Once an industrial neighborhood, it’s now buzzing with creativity and innovation, earning its nickname as the “Silicon Valley of Barcelona.” Amidst the sleek modern buildings and revamped warehouses, you’ll find hidden gems like T.44.

Located, fittingly, on Calle Taulat 44, T.44 offers a brunch menu that’s anything but ordinary. Think bold combinations, seasonal ingredients, or creative twists on classics.

  • The Alchemix: A Cocktail Experience Like No Other in Barcelona

The Alchemix: A Cocktail Experience Like No Other in Barcelona

As we gear up for the weekend, ready to unwind and catch up with friends, family, or our favorite people, I want to share one of my favorite cocktail bars in Barcelona—The Alchemix.

From the moment you step inside, you’re transported into an intimate, stylish space where mixology meets gastronomy. The dim lighting, warm wood accents, and touches of alchemical décor set the stage for a truly immersive experience. But what really makes The Alchemix stand out is their one-of-a-kind tasting menu—perfectly paired with cocktails.

The experience starts right at the door, where you’re greeted by their incredibly friendly staff. I always appreciate when a bar serves water infused with lemon or cucumber—it’s a small detail, but it shows care, and The Alchemix is one of those places. One of the bartenders is Nacho, the owner himself, which adds a personal touch to the whole visit.

Their curated cocktail menu is where the magic truly happens. Each drink is crafted with precision, creativity, and a bit of theater—from smoky infusions and molecular techniques to beautifully layered flavors that tell a story. The bartenders don’t just mix drinks; they create experiences, happily explaining the inspiration behind each one.

I wish I had remembered to take photos of our dinner (rookie mistake!), but that just gives me an excuse to return—and trust me, I will. It’s rare to find a place where both the food and cocktails are equally outstanding, but The Alchemix absolutely nails it.

If you’re in Barcelona and love a good cocktail, I 100% recommend checking this place out. And if you do, let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear what you think!

  • Sunday Brunch & Rosé at Hoxton Barcelona

Sunday Brunch & Rosé at Hoxton Barcelona

“Let’s grab a coffee,” she says—then casually steers toward a hotel, where we order lunch and a bottle of Rosé instead. Classic.

If there’s one thing Spaniards have perfected, it’s the art of the slow Sunday. A day dedicated to good food, endless conversation, and, of course, a drink (or two). And today’s spot? Hoxton Barcelona.

By now, you probably know my love for hotels and their interiors, and Hoxton is no exception. Known for its effortlessly cool, design-forward spaces, the Hoxton brand blends that boutique hotel charm with a laid-back, welcoming vibe. Their Barcelona location is no different.

Downstairs, there’s a lively restaurant and lobby area, while upstairs, the rooftop bar is a favourite of mine—though it’s currently closed for winter. Don’t worry, I’ll take you there soon.

We settled into their downstairs restaurant, a warm, stylish space with cozy seating, earthy tones, and a mix of locals and travelers. The menu? A best-of-both-worlds choice—brunch from Four Corners (famous for its Detroit-style pizza) or the all-day menu from the lobby bar. Mix and match—no rules here.

Feeling the need to balance out last night’s indulgence in fried food (another great Korean spot I’ll be sharing soon), we went the healthier route—a vegetarian dish, paired with a glass of Rosé. While not the most guilt-free option, it’s the weekend—why not embrace the art of enjoying life’s little indulgences?

And just like that, the afternoon drifted by in easy conversation, great food, and that signature Hoxton atmosphere. A Sunday well spent.

  • Velissima Barcelona: Authentic Italian Cuisine, Live Shows & Stunning Views

Velissima Barcelona: Authentic Italian Cuisine, Live Shows & Stunning Views

As someone currently learning Italian, I try to immerse myself in the language as much as possible—even while living in Barcelona. I listen to Italian podcasts daily, and when I really want to take it up a notch, I head to one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city for a full-on Italian experience—Velissima.

This is not just your typical Italian restaurant. The moment you step inside, you’re transported to a glamorous, vintage-inspired world—an elegant Italian yacht from the 1960s. From the very entrance, the experience begins. Friendly staff and live performers, dressed in classic Italian attire, greet you with a warm Benvenuto! As they guide you to your table (I always try to get one with a view of the port), you can already sense that this will be more than just a meal—it’s going to be an unforgettable evening.

But the night doesn’t end with dinner. As the evening progresses, Velissima transforms into a lively dance bar, where the music gets louder, the energy builds, and soon, everyone is on their feet, enjoying the electric atmosphere. Whether you’re here for a romantic dinner, a celebratory night out, or just to soak in the Dolce Vita vibes, Velissima guarantees an experience that’s as entertaining as it is delicious.

So if you’re craving an Italian escape without leaving Barcelona, Velissima is the place to be. Ci vediamo lì!

  • Morning Coffee & Pastries in Poble Nou, Barcelona: A Hidden Gem

Morning Coffee & Pastries in Poble Nou, Barcelona: A Hidden Gem

Somehow, against all odds, I’ve become that person—the one who wakes up early by choice to squeeze in a gym session, a coffee stop, and still have time to get ready for the day. I don’t know how it happened, but one morning, I just woke up and wanted to. What the what.

One of my favorite post-workout coffee spots? Little Fern Café, a newly opened gem tucked away in Poble Nou neighbourhood. This cozy little café is minimalist yet inviting, with earthy tones, soft lighting, and an effortlessly cool vibe. While it doesn’t have much seating—just a built-in nook that fits about three people—it’s worth a stop for their pastries alone. Especially their Danish Crème Brûlée. Flaky, creamy, caramelized perfection.

Bonus? You’re almost guaranteed to spot some adorable dogs along the way.

A few blocks down, and you’re at the beach. Highly recommend grabbing your coffee and pastry to go, taking a slow stroll towards the shore, and just soaking it all in. Mornings like these? Chef’s kiss.

Have a favorite coffee spot in Poble Nou? Or a morning routine that changed your life? Drop a comment—I’d love to hear about it!
